Sustainable Learning

Green Circle & AC Beetopia

The Salon, Spa and Boutique, our on-site learning enterprise for Esthetician and Hairstyling programs, is proud to be a certified Green Circle salon member, taking an active role in diverting salon and spa waste from landfill and waterways through recycling procedures, product choices and connections with the community.

Supporting the Culinary department’s focus on sustainability, AC Beetopia is a bee yard located at Ottawa Campus. With two strong and lively hives cared for over the years by five culinary instructors, the hives are used as an education piece to support activities in our ‘Farm to Fork’ course. The bees have previously been part of a collaborative project with the School of Business and Hospitality, Twelve Dot and the Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum. The software from Twelve Dot monitored bee activity and provided data to help students understand what goes on inside the hive.
